Peterborough United’s badge is a modern blue symbol built around a single winged lion holding a key. The lion, key and heart-shaped key handle are the core elements of the club’s new identity, introduced for use from June 2026 onwards.
The winged lion comes from Peterborough United’s crest history. The club says winged lions first appeared on the badge in 1965, and the new version reimagines that tradition as one forward-facing winged lion.
The key is a city symbol. Peterborough United says keys appear in the city’s coat of arms, on historic buildings and old city maps, and were one of the badge elements supporters most wanted to keep. In the new badge, the lion holds the “keys of Peterborough” aloft.
The heart inside the key handle refers to the club as “the heartbeat of Peterborough,” and also connects to “Cor Unum,” meaning “One Heart,” an early motto used on the club crest. The club’s “Posh” nickname comes from Fletton United in 1921, when the manager was quoted as looking for “Posh players” for a “Posh team.”
