Leicester City badge meaning and origin

Leicester City’s badge is a blue-and-white roundel with a golden fox’s head at its centre, framed by the club name “LEICESTER CITY FOOTBALL CLUB” and a subtle floral cinquefoil pattern taken from the city’s coat of arms. The fox has been tied to the club since 1948, when a fox was first added to the crest to reflect Leicestershire’s long association with foxes and fox hunting, helping cement the “Foxes” nickname.

The cinquefoil – a stylised five-petalled flower – is lifted from Leicester’s civic heraldry and was introduced behind the fox in the early 1990s, giving the badge a direct visual link to the city.

Since then the emblem has been periodically tidied up, most recently in 2010, but the combination of fox’s head, cinquefoil and blue circle has remained the defining symbol of Leicester’s identity on and off the pitch.
