Liga MX is the first division in Mexico. It was founded in 1943 and currently features 18 clubs. The 2024–25 champions are América (Apertura 2024) and Toluca (Clausura 2025). Most titles: América (16), Guadalajara (12), Toluca (11). No promotion or relegation is currently in place (suspended until 2026–27); the season is split into two short tournaments, Apertura and Clausura, each a single round-robin of 17 matchdays followed by a 10-team Liguilla play-off. Continental qualification: at least 6 spots for the CONCACAF Champions Cup are guaranteed to Liga MX (typically for the Apertura and Clausura champions, runners-up and top aggregate clubs), with up to 3 additional places available via the Leagues Cup, plus participation in the Campeones Cup.
