The competition uses a 36-club league phase: 29 teams qualify directly and seven places are decided through qualifying and the play-offs. The Champions League collection combines many different approaches to European football identity. Real Madrid uses an interlocking MCF monogram, diagonal sash and royal crown, Bayern Munich places the blue-and-white Bavarian diamond pattern inside its roundel, Inter is represented by a reduced IM monogram, and Liverpool uses the Liver bird as the central element of its crest.
