The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the 23rd edition of the tournament and the first ever staged across three host countries: Canada, Mexico and the United States. Running from 11 June to 19 July 2026, the tournament expands to 48 national teams from six confederations competing in 16 cities across North America.
In terms of allocation, FIFA’s new 48-team format grants 16 direct places to UEFA, 9 to CAF, 8 to AFC, 6 to CONMEBOL, 6 to CONCACAF (including the three hosts) and 1 to OFC, with the final two berths decided via an inter-confederation play-off, bringing the total to 48.
The World Cup final is scheduled for 19 July 2026 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey (New York New Jersey Stadium). Argentina arrive as the reigning world champions after Qatar 2022, while Brazil remain the most successful nation with five World Cup titles.
