The Russian Premier League is the top division of Russian football. Founded in 2001 after the reorganization of Russia’s top-flight league structure, it features 16 clubs competing in a double round-robin format, with each team playing 30 matches per season. The current Russian Premier League champions are Zenit Saint Petersburg, winners of the 2025–26 season. The most successful clubs in the Russian Premier League era are Zenit Saint Petersburg, CSKA Moscow and Lokomotiv Moscow. Each season, the bottom clubs are relegated to the Russian First League, while teams above them may enter relegation play-offs depending on final league position.
