The EFL Championship is the second division of English football. Founded in 1892 as the Football League Second Division and known under its current Championship name since 2004, it features 24 clubs competing in a double round-robin format, with each team playing 46 matches per season. The current EFL Championship champions are Coventry City, winners of the 2025–26 season. Each season, the top two clubs are promoted automatically to the Premier League, while the next four clubs enter the play-offs for the final promotion place. The bottom three clubs are relegated to EFL League One.
