Primera División (Uruguay) is the first division in Uruguay. It was founded in 1900 and currently features 16 clubs. The 2024 champions are Peñarol. Most titles: Peñarol/CURCC (52), Nacional (49), Defensor Sporting (4). Relegation is to the Segunda División; the league is played across three tournaments (Apertura, Intermedio and Clausura) feeding an aggregate table, and the three clubs with the lowest two-season points average are relegated each year. Continental qualification: 4 spots for the Copa Libertadores and 4 for the Copa Sudamericana, allocated via the aggregate table and national competitions under CONMEBOL’s standard berth distribution for Uruguay.
