Progreso badge meaning and origin

Club Atlético Progreso’s badge is a yellow roundel with red lettering, a central red-and-yellow striped shield marked “C.A.P,” the year 1917, two laurel branches and a gold star above the crest. The outer ring carries the full club name and “Uruguay.”

The “C.A.P” initials stand for Club Atlético Progreso, while 1917 marks the club’s foundation in Montevideo. The red-and-yellow colours are central to Progreso’s identity and explain the common nickname Aurirrojos, used for clubs wearing gold/yellow and red.

Progreso is strongly associated with La Teja, a working-class neighbourhood of Montevideo, and is also known as Los Gauchos del Pantanoso. The badge keeps that identity simple: club name, initials, founding year and traditional colours arranged around a classic football shield.
