The J1 League is the top division of Japanese football. Launched in 1993 as the professional J.League and known as J1 League since 1999, it sits at the highest level of the Japanese football pyramid and normally features 20 clubs in a national league format. Kashima Antlers finished first in the 2025 J1 League table. The clubs with the most J1 League titles include Kashima Antlers, Yokohama F. Marinos and Kawasaki Frontale. Each season, the lowest-ranked clubs are relegated to J2 League, while the leading clubs compete for the national title and Asian qualification places.
