Primera Nacional is the second division of Argentine football, sitting below the Liga Profesional de Fútbol. Founded in 1986 as Nacional B and now organized under the Primera Nacional name, it is the main national promotion pathway into Argentina’s top flight. The 2026 season features 36 clubs divided into two zones of 18 teams, with each club playing a home-and-away schedule within its zone plus interzonal matches. The winners of the two zones meet in a final for the first promotion place, while the next best teams enter the Torneo Reducido play-offs for another promotion place. Relegation is decided through the final league standings and sends clubs down to the appropriate third-tier competition.
