The EFL Championship is the second division of England and Wales. It was founded in 1892 as the Football League Second Division and currently features 24 clubs. The 2024–25 champions are Leeds United. Most titles: Leicester City, with 8 second-tier titles. Promotion/relegation: the top two clubs are automatically promoted to the Premier League, clubs finishing between third and sixth enter the promotion play-offs, and the bottom three clubs are relegated each season to EFL League One. The competition is played as a double round-robin, across 46 matchdays. European qualification: no direct European places are allocated through the Championship; clubs can only reach UEFA competitions through domestic cups such as the FA Cup or EFL Cup, or after promotion to the Premier League.
