Athletic Club’s badge is an inverted white shield divided diagonally: one half carries red-and-white stripes echoing the famous zurigorri shirts, while the other is packed with symbols of Bilbao and Biscay.  In the scenic half you can pick out the medieval bridge and church of San Antón, long-time emblems of the city, alongside two black wolves taken from the arms of the Haro family, lords of Bizkaia and founders of Bilbao.  

The oak of Gernika and the St Andrew’s saltires are lifted from the provincial coat of arms, representing Basque self-government and the historic assemblies held under the tree.  First introduced in the 1920s and refined several times since, this shield has become a dense piece of local storytelling: every element ties the club’s identity to its city, its province and the wider Basque Country.
