Celta Vigo badge meaning and origin

Celta Vigo’s badge sets a sky-blue shield with a white “C” monogram on top of a long red cross, all crowned and edged in gold. The cross is the Cross of Saint James, a historic Galician and pilgrim symbol that also appears in the arms of Santiago de Compostela and has been used on Celta’s crest since the late 1920s, linking the club to the wider Celtic and Jacobean identity of the region.

The sky-blue shield reflects both the club’s nickname Os Celestes and the colour of the Galician flag, adopted in the 1920s when Celta moved away from its original red shirts to represent the region.  The royal crown was added after King Alfonso XIII granted the “Real” title in 1923, removed during the Second Republic and later restored, so the current crest neatly layers city, regional and royal history into one of La Liga’s most distinctive emblems.
