Plymouth Argyle’s badge is a dark green shield with a white sailing ship, a white outline, and a ribbon underneath carrying the initials “P.A.F.C.”
The ship is the Mayflower, the vessel that left Plymouth in 1620 on its voyage across the Atlantic. It directly connects the club to the city’s most famous historical story and to Argyle’s “Pilgrims” nickname.
The Mayflower has not always been on the crest. Argyle’s first shirt badge appeared in 1911 and used a cross and four towers from the Plymouth coat of arms. The city’s full coat of arms appeared on shirts in 1949, before the Mayflower became the central crest symbol in 1964. It was briefly replaced by a monogram in the 1970s, returned in 1982, and has remained the club’s main badge symbol since.
The green colour reflects Plymouth Argyle’s long-standing “Greens” identity, while the simple Mayflower-and-shield design keeps the club closely tied to Plymouth’s maritime history, the Pilgrim Fathers story, and the Home Park club identity.
