Stevenage’s badge is a red circular crest with a gold outer ring, the club name around the top, “1976” split across the sides, and a central gold hart in front of red-and-white stripes.
The hart is the key symbol. It comes from local heraldry, appearing in Stevenage’s civic coat of arms via the Hertfordshire arms, where it represents the county connection. Stevenage Borough Council also links the hart to the town’s coat of arms, alongside symbols of local industry and New Town planning.
The current crest was introduced in 2019 as a cleaner, more digital-friendly identity. It brought the traditional Hertfordshire hart to the front of the design, replacing the more detailed previous badge with a simpler roundel built for modern use.
The red-and-white stripes behind the hart represent Stevenage’s Six Hills and the six planned neighbourhoods of Stevenage New Town, while the gold was added to replace the older yellow and give the badge a stronger premium accent. The 1976 date marks the formation of Stevenage Borough, the club that later became Stevenage FC.
