Peterborough United reveal new The Posh crest featuring winged lion and city keys
Peterborough United will begin using their new club crest from 10am on Monday, 1 June 2026, as the club formally launches its redesigned identity built around The Posh name, a single winged lion and the keys of Peterborough.

The new logo replaces the badge used since 2008 and will first appear across the club’s social and digital channels, including website branding, social media profiles and matchday graphics. It will also feature on Peterborough United kits from the 2026/27 season.
Rather than retaining the previous crest’s two-lion shield composition, the redesigned badge centres on one forward-facing winged lion holding the keys linked to Peterborough and Saint Peter. The identity was publicly unveiled in July 2025 after a consultation and design process involving supporters, club representatives and football identity designer Christopher Payne.
What does Peterborough United’s new winged lion crest represent?
Peterborough United’s outgoing badge featured two winged lions surrounding a central shield, alongside the club name, founding year and the motto “Upon This Rock.” The new crest simplifies the design around one forward-facing winged lion holding the keys associated with the city of Peterborough.
The winged lion remains a central element of the club’s identity. Peterborough United said its supporter consultation showed that the winged lions were among the most valued elements of the previous crest. In the redesigned badge, the single lion has been repositioned as the main symbol of the club.
The keys have also been retained. They appear on Peterborough’s coat of arms and are historically associated with Saint Peter, after whom the city is named. In the new crest, the winged lion holds the keys aloft, connecting the football club’s identity more directly with the symbolism of Peterborough.
A heart shape is included within the handle of the key. The club explained that this detail reflects its ambition to be at the heart of the local community. It also references “Cor Unum”, meaning “One Heart”, an early Peterborough United motto previously featured on a club crest.
Why The Posh changed their logo

Peterborough United first announced the brand evolution project in January 2025. The club said the objective was not limited to designing a new badge, but to create a wider visual identity suitable for modern digital platforms, club communications, merchandise and leisurewear.
According to the club, the crest introduced in 2008 had become less practical for contemporary use, particularly across smaller digital applications and new commercial formats. The new system was developed to provide a clearer and more adaptable identity across websites, social media, kits, retail products and printed materials.
The club will use the redesigned identity in two principal forms. Its primary version places the “Posh” wordmark beneath the new crest and is intended to serve as the main everyday identity. A secondary version uses the crest alone in applications where space is limited or the wordmark is not required.
Supporters involved in the redesign process
The new Peterborough United logo was developed by Christopher Payne, the football identity designer also responsible for the club’s new custom typeface, Posh Type.

Peterborough United began the process with supporter engagement in January 2025, including a fan forum and surveys. The club said feedback highlighted history and heritage as central priorities for any new identity, with the winged lions, keys and “Upon This Rock” motto among the most valued elements of the outgoing crest.
During spring 2025, Payne developed the identity after engaging with club representatives, supporters and people connected with Peterborough’s history. The recommended design was presented to chairman Darragh MacAnthony in April 2025 before being shown to supporter focus groups in May.
The finished identity was officially unveiled on 31 July 2025. In addition to the main crest, Peterborough United introduced Posh Type and a wider visual system designed to support different areas of the club’s branding.
When will the new Peterborough United logo be used?
Peterborough United’s new crest will officially enter use across the club’s social and digital channels from 10am on 1 June 2026. The club has also stated that a redesigned website will follow later in the year.
The badge will appear on Peterborough United kits from the 2026/27 season. The club previously explained that it could not be used on the preceding season’s shirts because kit designs must be submitted to manufacturing partners significantly in advance.
For Peterborough United, the June 2026 rollout marks the introduction of a complete new identity for The Posh, connecting the club’s modern visual system with the winged lion, the city keys and symbols already rooted in its crest history.
