Angola National Team badge meaning and origin

Angola’s national team badge is a yellow shield with a red and black outline, the text “Federação Angolana de Futebol” around the upper section, and “F.A.F.” near the bottom. In the centre, a red football contains a black sable antelope head.

The antelope represents Angola’s national team nickname, “Palancas Negras,” meaning Black Sable Antelopes. The symbol gives the badge a direct link to the team’s football identity, while the red, black and yellow palette echoes the colours of the Angolan flag.

The team is governed by the Federação Angolana de Futebol, which is represented by the F.A.F. initials on the badge. Angola played its first international after independence in 1976 and later reached its first FIFA World Cup in 2006.
