Sweden National Team badge meaning and origin

Sweden’s badge is a blue-and-yellow shield based on the Swedish flag, with a large yellow Nordic cross on a blue field. Across the upper section sits the word “Sverige,” while a round football mark above reads “Svenska Fotbollförbundet” and includes the year 1904.

The blue and yellow colours and cross come directly from Sweden’s national flag, making the badge a clear national-team emblem rather than a mascot-based design. “Sverige” is the Swedish name for Sweden, and Svenska Fotbollförbundet is the Swedish Football Association.

The Swedish Football Association was founded in 1904 and has governed the national team since the early years of international football. The circular top element keeps that federation identity visible while the main shield focuses on the flag.

Modern versions have refined the badge into a clean, flat football crest, but the central idea remains unchanged: Sweden’s name, national colours, flag cross and football association heritage.
