Antalyaspor badge meaning and origin

Antalyaspor’s badge is a red-and-white circular crest with the club name around the outside, a large “A” and “S” monogram in the centre, the Yivli Minaret between the letters, and the foundation year 1966 below.

The “A” stands for Antalya and the “S” stands for spor, meaning sport in Turkish. The minaret represents the Yivli Minare, one of Antalya’s best-known historic landmarks and a symbol of the city. The three white bands on the minaret refer to the three local clubs that formed Antalyaspor: İlk Işıkspor, Ferrokromspor and Yenikapı Suspor.

Antalyaspor was founded in 1966 as part of the wider Turkish football push to create representative city clubs. Its red-and-white colours were chosen to represent Antalya broadly, and the badge keeps that identity simple: city initials, local monument, foundation year and the merger of the founding clubs.
