Ajax’s classic badge is a fine-line circular emblem showing the bearded Greek hero Ajax in black-and-white profile, wearing an ornate helmet, with the name “AJAX” spaced around the upper rim and a small diagonal red-and-white shield tucked on the right. Introduced in 1928, this crest replaced earlier player-based logos and explicitly foregrounded the club’s mythological namesake, chosen to embody bravery, honour and the warrior spirit.
The little shield simply displays Ajax’s red-and-white club colours, themselves long associated with Amsterdam. This richly detailed portrait badge, worn through the club’s mid-20th-century glory years, was later simplified into the 11-line version in 1990, before the original design was restored as the primary crest for the 2025–26 season after strong supporter demand.
