Swansea City’s current badge is a minimalist black-and-white roundel with a stylised black swan picked out in three sweeping curves above the inscription “Swansea City AFC.” The swan has been the club’s core symbol since the 1970s, reflecting both the “Swans” nickname and the bird that appears in Swansea’s civic heraldry and waterfront imagery.
The 1998 redesign that created this abstract swan was inspired by the new City and County of Swansea authority and deliberately moved away from the older castle-and-swan crest, whose blue background was felt to echo rivals Cardiff.
A retro badge based on the 1980s design briefly returned for the 2021–22 kits, but supporter preference and brand recognition saw the sleek circular swan reinstated on shirts from 2023.
