The UEFA Europa League is UEFA’s secondary club competition for teams from across Europe, sitting below the Champions League and above the Conference League. Founded in 1971 as the UEFA Cup and rebranded in 2009, it adopted a new 36-team league phase from 2024–25, replacing the old group stage. Each club plays eight different opponents (four home, four away); the top eight qualify directly for the round of 16, teams ranked 9th–24th enter knockout play-offs, and those in 25th–36th are eliminated. Clubs qualify via their domestic league and cup performance, and the Europa League winners earn a place in the following season’s Champions League league phase plus the UEFA Super Cup. The 2024–25 champions are Tottenham. Most titles: Sevilla (7).
