The club has described the returning crest as a symbol linking the team, the city, the Volkswagen plant and the wider region.
The Zinnenwappen was part of VfL Wolfsburg’s older visual identity before the club moved to its round modern logo in 2002. Supporters continued to use the battlement symbol on flags and banners, making it one of the most recognisable elements of Wolfsburg fan culture.
In 2026, VfL Wolfsburg announced the permanent return of the battlement crest in a clearer modern form, with full regular kit use planned from the 2027–28 season.
