UD Almería badge meaning and origin

UD Almería’s badge uses a yellow-outlined shield with the red “U” and “D” initials at the top, a blue band carrying “ALMERIA,” and red-and-white vertical stripes in the lower section. A vintage yellow football sits over the stripes, while a rounded top detail completes the crest shape.

The red-and-white stripes reflect Almería’s traditional football colours and the club’s “rojiblanco” identity. The blue name band connects the badge to the city of Almería, while the ball makes the design explicitly football-focused rather than purely heraldic.

The club was founded in 1989 as Almería Club de Fútbol. In 2001, it was renamed Unión Deportiva Almería after the city’s football structure was reorganised around Almería CF and Polideportivo Almería.

The current badge keeps that young-club identity clear: the UDA initials, the city name, the red-and-white colours and the football symbol remain the main elements, without relying on a crown, animal or civic coat of arms.
