Santa Cruz Futebol Clube’s badge is a black, white and red emblem built around a stylized white anchor shape. The left side is black, the right side is red, and a layered white “SCFC” monogram sits across the centre, standing for Santa Cruz Futebol Clube.
The anchor was part of the original badge design by Teófilo de Carvalho, one of the club’s early figures, and is described in the club’s own history as representing firmness and calmness. The club name comes from the Santa Cruz churchyard in Recife, where the young founders used to play football.
Santa Cruz was founded in Recife on 3 February 1914 as Santa Cruz Foot-Ball Club. Its first colours were black and white, but red was added in 1915 after league rules prevented two clubs from using the same colours.
The badge has evolved through small visual changes, including a statutory change in the 1970s that inverted the red and black sides. The modern mark keeps the anchor, tricolour identity and SCFC monogram as its core elements.
