Ferroviaria (AFE) badge meaning and origin

Associação Ferroviária de Esportes’s badge is a grená-and-white oval emblem with a large white “AFE” monogram across the centre. Three grená stars sit above the oval, and “Araraquara-SP” appears below, identifying the club’s home city and state.

The initials stand for Associação Ferroviária de Esportes. The club’s official history links the badge to the Estrada de Ferro Araraquara: the original mark used the same initials as EFA, the railway company, but reversed into AFE for the new sports association.

Ferroviária was founded on 12 April 1950 by engineers and workers connected to the Estrada de Ferro Araraquara. Its grená-and-white colours were chosen at foundation and became the basis of the club’s identity, giving rise to the nickname Locomotiva Grená.

The three stars above the badge refer to Ferroviária’s tricampeonato do Interior, a regional achievement often represented on the club’s shirts and crest variations.
