Real Madrid badge meaning and origin

Real Madrid’s badge is a circular crest built around an interlocking “MCF” monogram (Madrid Club de Fútbol) on a white field, crossed by a diagonal mulberry band and topped with a detailed royal crown, all framed by a blue-gold border.

The intertwined initials date back to the club’s first emblem in 1902, when Madrid were a plain white-shirt team without any royal status.

The crown was added in 1920 after King Alfonso XIII granted the “Real” (royal) title, visually marking the new name Real Madrid and tying the club to the monarchy.

During the Second Republic the crown disappeared and a purple Castile band was introduced, but both the royal symbol and the stripe were combined again after the Civil War, then subtly refined in later updates, including the sleeker, gold-rimmed version used today.
