Netherlands National Team (Dutch) badge meaning and origin

The Netherlands national team badge is a bright orange shield with a fine white border, tapering to a point, featuring a detailed white rampant lion at the centre and the initials “KNVB” arched above its mane. This lion is derived from the Nederlandse Leeuw in the Dutch coat of arms, long used as a symbol of national authority and courage.  The orange field reflects the House of Orange-Nassau, from which the team’s famous “Oranje” identity and shirt colour come.

The current crest, introduced in the mid-2010s, replaced the earlier stylised lion’s-head logo used from 1996, returning to a more traditional full-bodied lion while keeping the modern shield silhouette.
