France National Team badge meaning and origin

The current France national team emblem shows a faceted white Gallic rooster standing on a stylised base, outlined in dark blue, with two blue five-pointed stars above and the abbreviation “FFF” set below in a geometric sans-serif. The rooster, or coq gaulois, has been associated with France since the Middle Ages through a Latin pun between gallus (Gaul) and gallus (rooster), and evolved into a widely used national symbol in sport.

The modern, ribbon-like rooster motif was introduced by the French Football Federation as part of a cleaner visual identity in the 2010s, while the two stars were added in 2018 to celebrate France’s FIFA World Cup triumphs in 1998 and 2018.
