Club Brugge badge meaning and origin

Club Brugge’s badge is a round black-and-white crest with the club name in the outer ring, a crown at the top, laurel branches on each side and the founding year 1891 below the crown. The centre shows black-and-blue diagonal stripes, and a gold star sits above the badge.

The black-and-blue stripes represent Club Brugge’s traditional colours and its Blauw-Zwart identity. The crown reflects the club’s royal status, while the year 1891 marks the foundation of Brugsche Football Club, the starting point of the modern club.

Club Brugge was founded in Bruges on 13 November 1891 by local students and English pupils. Its identity later evolved through names including Football Club Brugeois before becoming Club Brugge Koninklijke Voetbalvereniging.

The central stripes and circular format have become the club’s stable modern look. The star above the badge represents ten Belgian league titles.
