Chapecoense badge meaning and origin

Associação Chapecoense de Futebol’s badge is a green circular mark with a white outer ring, the club’s full name around the border, and a large white “ACF” monogram in the centre. It also includes “Chapecó-SC” at the bottom, a white star above the badge, and a smaller star placed inside the letter “F.”

The initials stand for Associação Chapecoense de Futebol, while “Chapecó-SC” identifies the club’s home city in Santa Catarina. The green-and-white identity matches the club’s long-established visual style and is closely tied to its common nickname, Chape.

Chapecoense was founded on 10 May 1973, emerging from the union of Atlético Chapecoense and Independente as part of an effort to create a professional football club for Chapecó. The badge has kept a simple monogram-based identity rather than using animals, crowns, landmarks or complex local emblems.

In 2016, after the LaMia Flight 2933 tragedy and the club’s Copa Sudamericana title, two stars were added: one above the badge for the continental title and one inside the “F” to honour those who died.
