Cagliari badge meaning and origin

Cagliari’s badge is a pointed shield split vertically into red and dark blue, with the club name “CAGLIARI” in white at the top and the medieval “Four Moors” flag set inside a smaller central shield. Since 2015 this crest has used an “Old French” shield shape and a simplified version of the Quattro Mori, whose four black heads now all face to the right.

The inner emblem reproduces Sardinia’s historic flag: a red cross of Saint George on white, quartering four Moorish heads, a symbol long associated with the island and its people.  By combining this regional icon with the rossoblù colours of the city, the crest presents Cagliari Calcio explicitly as the team of Sardinia.
