SSC Bari badge meaning and origin

SSC Bari’s badge uses a tall oval shape split vertically into white and red, with a black outer border. On the left side is the club’s famous cockerel, drawn in red and black, while the right side carries the white “SSC BARI” lettering.

The cockerel is the historic visual symbol of Bari and directly reflects the club’s nickname, “I Galletti” — “The Cockerels.” The red and white colours match Bari’s traditional identity and another long-used nickname, “I Biancorossi,” meaning “The White and Reds.”

The club was originally founded in 1908 as Bari Foot-Ball Club and has gone through several reorganizations and names, including AS Bari, FC Bari 1908 and today’s SSC Bari. The cockerel became the club’s defining emblem in the late 1970s and early 1980s, with a famous version designed by Piero Gratton.

After Bari’s 2018 refoundation, the badge was updated again, keeping the cockerel and the red-and-white split as the core symbols of the club’s modern identity.
