São Paulo FC’s badge is a white-outlined, heart-shaped triangular shield with a flat top: a black rectangle across the upper section carries the white initials “SPFC,” while the lower point is split into a red left triangle, a black right triangle and a narrow white wedge running down the centre. This basic composition has remained virtually unchanged since the club’s foundation in 1930.
The colours combine red and white from Club Athletico Paulistano with black and white from Associação Athlética das Palmeiras, also mirroring the flag of the state of São Paulo. Designed by German artist Walter Ostrich together with founder Firmiano de Morais Pinto Filho, the five-pointed “heart” shield was meant to symbolise a proud, modern club representing the whole city.
