Manchester City’s current badge is a clean circular crest with a sky-blue ring, the words “MANCHESTER CITY,” and the founding year 1894 framing a central white shield that shows a golden ship, three diagonal blue stripes and a red rose.
The ship comes from Manchester’s civic coat of arms and symbolises the city’s trading power and the Manchester Ship Canal, while the three stripes represent the rivers Irwell, Irk and Medlock that run through the city. The red rose recalls Manchester’s historic ties to Lancashire.
Unveiled after a 2015 fan consultation that rejected the unpopular eagle crest, the design is a “modern original” that deliberately echoes earlier roundels, though some supporters still lament the loss of “Football Club” from the wording.
