Liverpool’s current badge is the minimalist red Liver bird standing above the initials “L.F.C.,” a clean crest reintroduced on shirts in 2012 as a modernised version of the 1960s bird-and-lettermark and now used as the club’s primary symbol across kits and digital platforms. The Liver bird itself comes from Liverpool’s civic coat of arms, where the cormorant-like figure holds a sprig of seaweed (laver) to represent the city’s maritime roots. Earlier crests wrapped this same bird inside more elaborate shields and, from the 1990s, added the Shankly Gates arch, the “You’ll Never Walk Alone” scroll and twin eternal flames to honour the Hillsborough victims.
