Granada CF badge meaning and origin

Granada CF’s badge uses a tall red-and-white shield with a stylised “GCF” monogram running through the centre. A white football sits above the main shield, while a small red pomegranate appears at the bottom.

The pomegranate is the most direct local reference in the badge: “granada” means pomegranate in Spanish, and the fruit has long been used as a civic symbol of the city of Granada. The red-and-white colour scheme also reflects the club’s traditional identity as “Los Rojiblancos.”

Granada CF was founded in 1931 as Club Recreativo Granada. The club’s official badge was originally designed by Plácido Mendoza de la Fuente, and its elongated shield shape became one of the most recognisable features of Granada’s football identity.

The current version was introduced as part of the club’s 2023 corporate identity update, keeping the historic monogram, ball and pomegranate while refining the lines, red tone and overall digital presentation.
