Corinthians badge meaning and origin

Corinthians’ badge is a circular white lifebuoy edged in black and red, over a large red anchor with crossed red oars behind it, all centred on a white disc with a black ring reading “S.C. CORINTHIANS PAULISTA” and “1910.” Inside the circle, a small shield shows the black-and-white striped flag of the state of São Paulo with its red canton. This naval composition dates to 1939, when modernist painter and former player Francisco Rebolo reworked the earlier round shield to add the anchor, oars and rope, celebrating the club’s early success in rowing and other water sports.

The São Paulo flag underlines Corinthians’ identity as a team of the state capital while the black and white echo the club’s traditional colours.
