Bahia badge meaning and origin

Bahia’s badge is a blue circular crest with a double white outline, “ESPORTE CLUBE BAHIA” and the year “1931” written around the ring, and at the centre a white flag with red and white horizontal stripes and a blue canton bearing a white star, flanked above by two yellow stars. The roundel and inner flag were designed in the 1930s by Raimundo Magalhães, who modelled the crest on Corinthians’ badge but replaced the São Paulo flag with the newly created flag of the state of Bahia and changed the colours to blue, red and white.

These three colours honour Bahia’s founding clubs and the state flag, underpinning the “Tricolor Baiano” identity, while the two stars represent the club’s Brazilian championship titles in 1959 and 1988.
