Atlético Mineiro’s badge is a black shield with a white outline, topped by a single yellow-gold star and divided horizontally: the white initials “CAM” sit in a solid black band at the top, above a lower section of narrow black and white vertical stripes. This shield format dates back to 1922, when the club moved from a simple oval monogram to the current escutcheon with “CAM” above striped lower panels, a design that has only been subtly adjusted over the decades.
The star above the crest, added in the 1970s, commemorates Atlético’s first Brazilian championship in 1971 and has been kept as a permanent symbol of that national title, even after temporary red stars for other trophies were removed in 1999.
