The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be the 23rd edition of the tournament and the first to be held across three host countries: Canada, Mexico and the United States. From June 11 to July 19, 2026, the tournament will expand to 48 national teams from six confederations, competing across 16 cities in North America.
In terms of slot allocation, FIFA’s new 48-team format grants 16 direct places to UEFA, 9 to CAF, 8 to AFC, 6 to CONMEBOL, 6 to CONCACAF including the three host nations, and 1 to OFC. The final two places will be decided through an inter-confederation playoff, bringing the total to 48 teams.
The World Cup final is scheduled for July 19, 2026, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, officially named New York New Jersey Stadium for the tournament. Argentina enters as the reigning world champion after Qatar 2022, while Brazil remains the most successful nation in World Cup history, with five titles.
