Unión La Calera badge meaning and origin

Unión La Calera’s badge shows a circular red crest with the word “Unión” at the top, “La Calera” at the bottom and a large “ULC” monogram in the centre. The letters use blue and green details, giving the modern crest a cleaner and more abstract identity than the club’s older shield.

The red ring connects directly to Unión La Calera’s traditional colour and to the nickname “Los Rojos.” Red has been the club’s defining visual colour since the early years of the merged institution.

The “ULC” initials stand for Unión La Calera, while the circular layout makes the badge feel modern, compact and easy to use across digital platforms. The blue and green diagonal details inside the letters also echo the colours of the club’s traditional crest.

Unión La Calera was formed from the merger of local clubs in La Calera, a city strongly associated with the cement industry, which explains the nickname “Los Cementeros.” The badge reflects that identity in a simplified way: the Unión name, the La Calera city reference, the red football tradition and a modern monogram for one of Chile’s historic provincial clubs.
