1. FC Union’s badge is a wide, banner-like crest in red, yellow, black and white, with the club name “1. FC UNION” stretched across the front and a football-and-bear motif tucked inside the letter “C.”  The unusual horizontal shape dates back to a 1960s design competition won by artist Peter Gribat and has changed very little since the club was refounded as 1. FC Union Berlin in 1966.  

The bear is lifted from Berlin’s coat of arms, where it has appeared for centuries as the city’s key heraldic symbol, so its presence on the crest anchors Union firmly in the capital’s identity.  The ball in the same device simply underlines the footballing context, turning the whole composition into a bold wordmark-plus-symbol that stands apart from more conventional shield or roundel badges.
