Nottingham Forest’s badge is one of the game’s purest logos: a stylised red tree rising above three wavy lines, the word “FOREST” in a custom type below and two stars floating above.

The tree was created in 1973 by local designer David Lewis, who won a newspaper-run competition; it represents Sherwood Forest, while the waves symbolise the River Trent beside the City Ground.

Adopted in 1974, the mark quickly became synonymous with Brian Clough’s teams and has barely changed since, apart from the addition of the two stars to celebrate Forest’s back-to-back European Cup triumphs in 1979 and 1980.
