FC Vizela badge meaning and origin

Futebol Clube de Vizela’s badge is a blue-and-white shield with the initials “F.C.V.” at the top. The left half shows the statue known as Vizela Romana, while the right half carries the five small blue shields from the Portuguese coat of arms.

The Vizela Romana figure links the badge to the town’s Roman heritage and its long history as a thermal spa destination. The Portuguese shields place the local club identity within a national heraldic frame, while the blue-and-white colours define Vizela’s traditional visual identity.

FC Vizela was founded on 1 January 1939 and became affiliated with the Braga Football Association in 1940. The club is based in Vizela, in northern Portugal, and plays at the Estádio do Futebol Clube de Vizela.

The badge has kept its civic structure over time, focusing on the town’s Roman symbol, Portuguese heraldry and the FCV initials rather than a mascot or abstract monogram.
