Liga Profesional de Fútbol is the first division in Argentina. It was founded in 1891 and currently features 30 clubs. The 2024 champions are Vélez Sarsfield. Most titles: River Plate (38), Boca Juniors (35), Racing Club (18). Relegation is based on a three-season points average (promedio): in a typical season, the two clubs with the lowest averages are relegated to Primera Nacional and replaced by the Primera Nacional champion and runner-up; the league has recently used a single round-robin format (27 matchdays in 2024). Continental qualification: 5 spots for the Copa Libertadores and 6 for the Copa Sudamericana, with places distributed through league position and national cup winners.
