VfB Stuttgart badge meaning and origin

VfB Stuttgart’s badge is a white shield with a thin black outline, topped by a red, highly stylised “VfB” monogram and a small golden shield beneath carrying three black deer antlers. The flowing initials were originally drawn by VfB player Hermann Stammler in the mid-20th century and have become one of German football’s most recognisable scripts.  The antlers are taken from the coat of arms of the House of Württemberg, a regional symbol recorded since the 13th century and adopted by the club in 1912 after the merger that created VfB.  The red-and-white palette reflects the club and Bad Cannstatt colours, while the classic shield design—reintroduced in 2014—deliberately emphasises heritage over modern minimalism.
