FC Groningen’s badge is a green roundel with a white inner disc, featuring a bold geometric “G” formed by a hexagonal outline and horizontal bar, surrounded at the base of the ring by the curved white wordmark “FC GRONINGEN.” Shortly after the club’s foundation in 1971, local newspaper Nieuwsblad van het Noorden ran a competition to design a crest; the winning entry, by 21-year-old designer Reint Rozema, introduced this abstract “G” as a clean symbol for the city and club.
The monochrome green emblem sits on white to mirror Groningen’s traditional colours, themselves taken from the city and provincial coat of arms. A brief 1990s experiment that added a Pegasus to the badge proved unpopular, and by 1996 the club reverted to this minimalist G-mark, which has remained essentially unchanged since.
