Aston Villa’s current badge is a shield with a sky-blue field, claret-and-white border and a yellow rampant lion beneath a single white star, with “ASTON VILLA” and the founding year 1874 curved along the base.  The lion is the Scottish lion rampant, adopted in the 1880s under influential Scots like William McGregor and George Ramsay, and it underpins the club’s “Lions” identity.  The lone star commemorates the 1982 European Cup triumph.  After a fan-driven switch to a roundel crest for 2023–24, Villa reverted to this refined shield for 2024, essentially updating the 2016–23 design while restoring a more traditional look that most supporters associate with the club.
